  19.  The law still seems to allow you to copy some one elses work as a
  20. base to build on your own work. If I was to do a collage of pictures for
  21. example I could use anyone elses pictures in that collage without their
  22. permisson because the collage constitutes a seprate artwork in and of
  23. it's self. So I would think that if you used those frames in a 3D animation
  24. you could legaly claim that you have created a separate artwork.

  28.    I believe you are dead wrong!  Corel recently conducted a 'best of'
  29. contest, where they promised the winner $4,000 cash, software, etc.
  30. AFTER they awarded the prize, somebody stepped in and noted that the
  31. 'winner' had used a face of an indian chief in his COMPOSITE image.  He
  32. had mistakenly thought that if he were to paint on the original image, it
  33. would macigally become his own.  He was wrong.  Corel, embarrassed,
  34. had to ask for the cash back and look for another winner.

  36. BTW, the guy foolishly decided to fight COREL on this, and said he
  37. wasn't giving up the $4K.
